Camo and Deer Cake

Buck says, "Where's my cake?!"
Jason's 30th birthday was this weekend and I wanted to make it special...he didn't seem excited at all. I asked him what kind of cake he wanted and he said he just wanted something simple. This was the cake he got the first year we were together.
I did NOT make this!
I wish I had the mad skills needed to make this cake, unfortunately I don't. A friend named James made it for us. It was red velvet inside (have you seen Steel Magnolia's LOL). Anyway he wanted a plain cake this year so I made him a butter cake. I did buy some almond candy that you can mold from Publix and fashioned some decent looking deer antlers out of it (watch out James!).

I made cream cheese icing too, but you can't see it underneath all the camo. He really seemed to like it, and he keeps eating it so it must taste good. :)

Butter Cake
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. I cooked mine in a 9 inch square pan. I only used the one, but you could split this into 2 round cake pans if you like.

Mix the eggs, vanilla and 1/4 cup of the milk. Mix the dry ingredients, and then add the egg mixture a third at a time (this keeps you from having a huge mess). Next add the butter and the rest of the milk. Mix with a mixer until its looks creamy. Pour into a greased pan, and bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
I wouldn't mess with it until it is completely cool (actually this is a lie and I always mess with it too early causing my cake to split and a lot of cussing to come from the kitchen). Cool completely before frosting.

Butter Cake Recipe:

12 tablespoons of butter (I KNOW!) room temperature
6 egg yolks
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups cake flour
1 1/2 cups Sugar (or Splenda)
1 tablespoon of baking powder
A pinch of salt
